The TechGirls Artificial Intelligence & Social Entrepreneurship Program is a series of artificial intelligence and technology entrepreneurship workshops for middle school students. Participants will learn about topics such as machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, build artificial intelligence projects to address one of seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals, and pitch their ideas during the Project Showcase & Pitch Day at the end of the program.
Program participants will use block programming to develop applications using artificial intelligence concepts that tackle a UN Sustainable Development Goal of their choosing. Participants will be put in the shoes of technology entrepreneurs through a startup simulation, allowing them to explore the possible career pathway of creating their own technology company. Students will also learn about education and careers in the field by interacting with computing professionals and entrepreneurs and discovering opportunities available for innovation and leadership in computing. As a result of participating in the program, girls will be introduced to computing principles while working to create a product that aims to solve a global issue they feel passionate about. In doing so, program participants will gain a holistic understanding of computer science and information technology that translates from education to industry. This process will empower program participants to pursue future endeavors in the computing field by providing a toolset for learning and exploration. Through this hands-on experience, students will better understand the relevance of computer science in their own lives and the world.
Please note that this program will be held virtually through Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
